Qingdao Marine Festival regarded as a major Festival Branch, currently is the only one as the theme of “Ocean” in China. It was founded in 1999 and scheduled to be held in July annually. The Ocean Festival plays the advantage of “China Marine Science and Technology City " relying on the beautiful scenery with the ocean. It aggregates the essence of modern Festivals. Its activities are greatly rich, which cover a dozen activities such as the opening ceremony, marine technology, marine sports, marine culture, marine tourism, marine food, closing ceremony etc several major sections, and it becomes a beautiful scenic routes in Qingdao.

        The Ocean Festival hosted by State Oceanic Administration and Qingdao Municipal Government has been held in seventh. The first and second ones were held by Qingdao tourism Administration, Department of Culture Affairs, Science and Technology Board , Science and Technology Commission, Government’s Policy researched room, a major festival office, Forestry and Park Service. Since the Third one, it was hosted by The People’s Government, The South District, Qingdao.

        Since the beginning of establishment, Qingdao ocean Festival put “Embracing the ocean century, creat blue brillance” as the theme. In order to protect the ocean and rationaly exploitate ocean resources and achieve sustainable Human economic and social development, it has made active efforts in promoting scientific and technological innovation, developing marine economic and international friendship and cooperation.

        In facing the 21st new Century, realizing the protection, utilization and development of the marine resources is the important issue for sustainable development. Creating the ocean festival embodies the attention of sustainable development and attitude to meet with marine century. Creating the organic intergration of Marine and tourism. Which promote the rapid development of marine tourism.

        Qingdao Ocean Festival has eight activity plates and 23 key projects: the opening ceremony, marine culture and entertainment, marine technology, marine sports, marine food, marine tourism, ports and cities, the closing ceremony.
